[Raven's made himself a regular at the bar by now, for the drinks but just as often for the other benefits of the place. Today he only has one thing on his mind as he hauls himself in, though, grabbing a barstool and flopping his face down onto the bar. (Never mind that something was probably spilled on it earlier and it smells of stale booze, he doesn't care at this point.)
Then he whines with his cheek all half-smushed against the counter:]
Hey Kara, ya got somethin' that'll knock me out? I'm tired of dealin' with this headache.
[A headache which seems to be affecting others in the colony, too, if the network is anything to judge by, but Raven's sure going to be one of the most vocal to whine about it.]
[Ah yes, her favorite patron. He certainly helps to keep the bar open (what a joke, since she rarely makes him pay) and provides fun company in all manners of ways.
But today...oh, Lords. That's particularly pathetic of him. She's heard of the headaches too, though, and she does feel a little sorry for him. But she also knows the whining is no doubt exaggerated.
She folds her arms and leans down to put her chin on them, eye-level with him -- or his hair, really.]
I dunno if it'll knock you out, but it'll make you not care. I've had quite a few requests for the same. But I'm not hauling anyone's ass back to their place...well, maybe an exception.
[That earns a snort and almost wicked grin.] Who says it'll be a guy? Circumstances hafta be just right either way.
[She always grimaces when she makes the drink. She tried a sip when she came up with it and it's purely awful -- but according to the patrons she'd treated with it, they didn't seem to care after a while. That's good enough in her mind. Maybe it's got curing effects too, but she isn't a scientist and thus doesn't care enough to find out.
Currently it's a gross, swampy green, but she hasn't added the really rough ingredient yet.]
How long have you had the headache?
listen kara you're thirsty for raven but that doesn't make him a cocktail
Hmmm. Maybe you could bring a guy and a girl if ya had a hard time decidin'.
[He extracts himself from faceplanting on the counter and sits up, sounding hopeful at that, because damn that would be good. Before he can get carried away with picturing it, though, he's distracted by that green... concoction... she appears to be making.]
That, uh, looks pretty potent. [That is alcohol and not some dangerous magic potion, right?] I dunno, maybe a week or so? Feels like it got worse the past few days.
[She should've expected such an answer from him, and just laughs at the rise it got out of him.]
Yeah, I could arrange that. I'm strong enough to carry both.
Anyway, don't give me that look about this. It's here to make you feel better, not look pretty. Although check this out.
[She pours some kind of liquor in that produces swirling, shimmering lines of gold. Half of it's shitty looking, half of it's pretty. Can't beat that in your cocktails, can you? (It...doesn't make it look any better.)]
That's what everyone's telling me. Especially that one kid who headbutted a robot or something? You didn't do something like that, did you?
It actually might be a magic potion. I dunno...one of the other bartenders assured me the green stuff is great for headaches, so who knows what's really in it, besides what I put with it.
[But she shrugs and beams, all happily and nonchalantly so it'll be okay, Raven! Don't question things too much. (It's not like it'll kill you, right? But she doesn't know that yet.)]
Drink or not, it's not my headache I'm trynna get rid of, old man. [Never passing up an opportunity to get cheeky.]
Uhh...good question. Some guy whining over the network and claimed he had "moves" but obviously doesn't if he thinks headbutting robots is a good idea. Seriously, who does that? I didn't catch his name, though.
[Kara patiently waits because she, too, had a time figuring out these devices. When she sees the picture she jawdrops.]
that's just a scale model right?
bc that's..
[She's Struggling with the words because she's never had anything that nice in her life, ever. She probably could have, had she made some different life choices, but there's no way that's real and that someone would do that for her.]
[They'd agreed to meet up, as per usual, to head out to dinner and try some new place but when they'd passed by the gym something had sparked. An urge they shared, maybe a little nudge from whatever had been going around. It wasn't the first time Rei'd suddenly had the desire to just do something crazy, but getting into a sparring match with a friend was new. She didn't object, though, when the suggestion had come and changed into the gi she kept in one of the lockers
Waiting for Kara to come out onto the mat, Rei paced back and forth anxiously, fists clenching and unclenching, her neck rolling to loosen it up. It'd been ages since she did anything with a human, but it had to happen sometime. Just...to get it out of her system.]
[Kara comes out in simple boxing gear, wrapping her wrists and palms as she arrives. She'd also done her stretches, but after seeing what Rei can do...well, she's remiss if she didn't at least feel a little intimidated.
Still, Kara's confident of her own strength, and whatever this weird spike in adrenaline or thrill or whatever it is has her antsy for something. She trusts her friend, even while she looks Super Serious with the gi on.
Kara slips on and tightens her gloves. She's ready to fight with whatever technique Rei decides on.]
You're goin' down. [Her smile is friendly but she's also not playing around.]
[Rei studies her friend, looking her stance over, taking that in. She looked ready, simple, nowhere near as traditional as she knew she looked, but differences in style. She's still not completely clear on why she's up for this, but there's an undeniable pull towards it, towards doing something reckless and getting her blood up.]
You think? I beg to differ. [There's a smile, a teasing lilt to her words, eyes taking in the blonde top to bottom. She looks strong, she was definitely fit, and she seems ready. So, Rei begins.
Her feet step forward quickly, carrying her across the mat in a blur, fist darting out for a quick jab at Kara's midsection. Probing and testing, seeing how she'll respond, and without any supernatural force behind it. That's something she won't use, not with Kara.]
[Kara grins. She absolutely understands the almost-thirst for blood or some kind of conflict right now. And conflict this way is the best way she knows how. Rei looks her over and Kara proudly grins.
Still got it.]
Whoa-- frak!
[Kara is quick to yell when Rei charges at her, faster than she's seen others, and while the punch doesn't catch her square in the midsection but rather a bit of her hip, she still feels the hit behind it and it knocks her back a little. She shakes herself off and goes for an uppercut at the chin next.]
You're fast... [She pants in between dodging and punching.]
[Rei moves with the fluid economy of motion of a snake, rolling to one side at the last second, Kara's fist only getting hair. Feet stepping lithely, the shorter woman returns with a volley of punches and blocks, neither of them making a lot of headway. A few hits here and there, Rei's eyes sparkling with delight.]
I have to be. You've got all the reach.
[Stepping quickly, she moves in closer, almost charging into Kara and trying to get a hand on her wrist for a hip throw. And barring that, at least she'll be inside Kara's guard.]
if i lost this again i was about to fight my computer
[Kara feels the way Rei looks, pumped up and eyes excited to spar. Her heartbeat thuds in her ears, and while she can block punches, the wrist reach throws her off balance. She hasn't blocked hip throws in what feels like years and she isn't able to counterbalance.
Her back hits the mat and she breathes heavily, chest heaving as she looks up at the younger (older? who knows?) woman. A smirk appears in between her panting.]
[When Kara goes down, Rei's instincts are of two minds. The first is to jump, take the opportunity and strike again. That's what one does in aikido, when the fight goes to the mat you finish it on the mat. On the other hand, a part of her says to ease off. A part that's easily ignored thanks to all the adrenaline surging in her. She's not sure why, but she just has to keep this up.
She spins on one foot while Kara speaks, twirling and dropping to the mat on top of Kara's stomach in a straddling position. Grinning a little and leaning forward to grab a wrist once again. It's a loose grip, she's not so far gone that she's jumping into bars and locks. Looking down into Kara's eyes, she answers with an easygoing smile.]
You've got to work on your footwork if you want to avoid a grapple.
[Even though her heart is racing and and something pulls her toward continuing to do this, Kara's techniques kicked in inside her memory and she moves her leg to trap Rei's under hers. With a twist of an arm and pushing off her other foot, she's able to knock the other woman's center of balance.
With a move that takes a little struggling because damn, Rei is strong, Kara finally flips them so they swap positions. Kara's knees rest on either side of Rei's waist Kara's grip on Rei's wrists is harder than when the other had hers in a hold, and her breath hasn't slowed from before. Looking down into her eyes, fiery and teasing at the same time makes her heart leaps into her throat.
Probably whatever's going on.]
It's been a while since I've had to work on footwork, but I'll get right to it. [She grins.] You oughta play Pyramid, now that's some footwork practice.
action.
Then he whines with his cheek all half-smushed against the counter:]
Hey Kara, ya got somethin' that'll knock me out? I'm tired of dealin' with this headache.

whining old man smh

She folds her arms and leans down to put her chin on them, eye-level with him -- or his hair, really.]
I dunno if it'll knock you out, but it'll make you not care. I've had quite a few requests for the same. But I'm not hauling anyone's ass back to their place...well, maybe an exception.
[So she straightens and starts a-makin'.]
whiiiiines
There's an exception, huh? Whoever's given that will be a pretty lucky guy.
[Apparently the headache's not so bad that he can't think about other things, too. No surprises there.]
kara: *lights him on fire* oops sorry meant to do that to the drink
[She always grimaces when she makes the drink. She tried a sip when she came up with it and it's purely awful -- but according to the patrons she'd treated with it, they didn't seem to care after a while. That's good enough in her mind. Yeah, I could arrange that. I'm strong enough to carry both.

not the kind of cocktail you're thinking of
Hey, showin' me somethin' shiny won't distract from the fact yer tryin' ta ply me with some kinda magic potion.
[Sure, he might be called Raven, but that doesn't make him all that distracted by shiny things!]
--Headbutted a robot? Who the heck did somethin' like that?
[...Actually, that sounds like something Darin would do... Please don't tell him it was Darin.]

[Says the random crazy she met on the network??? Maybe he really should ask Darin if he headbutts robots, though.
He frowns at the drink, and says in a heavy but resigned voice:]
All right, pass it here and I'll give it a try. What doesn't kill ya can only make ya stronger, ha ha...!
